NDS Screen Saver for Macs Using
Novell's NetWare Directory Services

©1997 by Erich G Bratton (erich @bratton.com)

Version 1.0 is available right here!

Description:
The NDS Screen Saver is a simple password-enabled screen saver which uses NetWare 4.1 NetWare Directory Services password checking. This way, a user doesn't have disparate NDS & screen saver passwords, as well as if a user forgets their password, an administrator can change it to grant access to the user's computer.

Benefits:

The main security benefit of this screen saver is that it will keep your network connections (file server, email, etc.) safe while you are away. It will not keep users from accessing files on your hard drive (they could get to them by rebooting your computer).

Versions:

NDS Screen Lock is an interfaceless app which, when launched, immediately covers the screen.

NDS Screen Saver is a traditional screen saver application which covers the screen after five minutes of inactivity, or after 2 seconds if the cursor is put into the lower left corner of the screen.

Features:

* Disables force-quit
* Disables debugger

Caveats:

* Not multiple-monitor friendly
* Tab-switchers can partially get past locked screens
